  1. Once the spill happens, use a paper towel to soak up the excess liquid.
  2. Blot – don’t scrub – to stop spreading the stain.
  3. Mix 1 cup of warm water, 1 cup of vinegar, and 2 tablespoons of baking soda.
  4. Spray or gently pour the mixture on the stain. You may also use a non-bleach detergent.
  5. Let it sit for some minutes, then blot.
  6. Pour some baking soda in one bowl and clean water in another.
  7. Dip a damp cloth in the baking soda and gently blot the tea stain.
  8. Rinse the area with a clean cloth and clean water.
  9. Repeat the two previous steps until the stain is removed, then pat the area dry.

  5. Mix a few drops of laundry detergent and a glass of water until it foams.

  2. Mix ½ cup of water with a few drops of dishwashing liquid.
  3. Spray the area with the mixture.
  4. Add 1 cup of vinegar and 2 tablespoons of baking soda to 1 cup of warm water.
  5. Spray or pour the mixture on the stain and leave for five minutes.
  6. Using a cloth, rub the stain gently and blot it dry.

  8. Vacuum when the odour is gone.

Grease stains

Carpet Cleaner
  1. Scrape what you can using a knife, or blot (without pressing) using a paper towel.
  2. Pour baking soda or cornstarch onto the area to absorb the moisture.
  3. Leave for 15 minutes, then vacuum the area.
  4. If the stain is still visible, mix warm water and a few drops of dishwashing liquid.
  5. Pour the mixture onto the area to break up the grease.
  6. Gently brush back and forth, then blot with a clean cloth.
  7. For stubborn grease stains, try an alcohol solution (but make sure to test on a less prominent carpet area first).

Makeup and nail polish

  • Foundation stains can be fixed with a mix of ¼ cup of hydrogen peroxide and 1 cup of warm water. Pour it on the stain and let it sit for about 1 hour, then blot with a paper towel.
  • For eyeliner and mascara stains, mix 1 cup of warm water and ¼ teaspoon of dishwashing liquid. Use a soft brush to scrub the carpet, then rinse.
  • Lipstick stains require a clean white cloth and rubbing alcohol.
  • How about a nail polish spill? Use a paper towel to absorb the liquid, but beware – don’t smear or wipe it off. Spray 15-20 puffs of hairspray, and pour a bit of rubbing alcohol on the stain. Use a scrub brush on the area for a minimum of 1 minute, adding small amounts of water to dissolve the mixture. Repeat until the nail polish is all gone.

Conclusion

You don’t have to throw out your carpet altogether because of a stain from a drink, food, or a pet. The most important tip? Gently blot any excess liquids with a paper towel before getting to work on the stain. And when you’re done, you can count on a sprinkle of baking soda to take care of any residual odour.
